Palm Sunday celebrates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, but it wasn’t long before he was assassinated. It looked like the enemy had won. But Jesus surprised everybody by gaining victory through humility and self sacrifice.

“What kind of man is this?”

A lot of people ask that question about Jesus–including his disciples. After following him around for years and watching him teach and interact with with people and the environment, Matthew recounts one of his memories of Jesus to answer that question. It was a crazy experience that included stormy seas and swimming swine.

The true story of the Magi

Matthew 2:1-12 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, in the time of King Herod, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem 2saying, “Where is the one who is born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” 3When King Herod heard this he was alarmed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4After assembling all the chief priests and experts in the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. 5“In Bethlehem of Judea,” they said, “for it is written this way by the prophet: 6And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’”

7Then Herod privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared. 8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and look carefully for the child. When you find him, inform me so that I can go and worship him as well.” 9After listening to the king they left, and once again the star they saw when it rose led them until it stopped above the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star they shouted joyfully. 11As they came into the house and saw the child with Mary his mother, they bowed down and worshiped him. They opened their treasure boxes and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12After being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back by another route to their own country.

When did Jesus die?  And what does that have to do with anything?

Well, if you know God, then you know he doesn’t do anything without a plan.  And the timing of Christ’s death and resurrection (and his prophesied entry into Jerusalem) were planned way ahead of time for the benefit of the entire world.

That includes you! You can benefit immensely from the plan that God unfolded on your behalf.  And all it takes from you is repentance and faith.

Turn the Tables

What is truth?

That’s the question that Pilate asked Jesus when he was put on trial before the Roman governor.  And that same question is asked by a lot of people today–especially when the topic of religion comes up.  People ask, why they should believe in one particular philosophy or religion over another.

If you ever wanted to know the answer, it’s in this weekend’s podcast.  Check it out and maybe the truth will set you free.

Enjoy!

Forgiveness

Feb

There is no greater gift than forgiveness.  The fact that God is even willing to pardon our past and wipe the slate clean is amazing–especially considering the fact that there’s no way we could ever make up for rebelling against the good life he has called us to live.

So in turn the greatest gift that we could share is to pass on the same kind of forgiveness that we receive.  It can be a life changer.

Of course that’s hard to do is you’ve never received the grace of God in your own life.  So if you want to know just how good it is, there’s no time like the present to find out what having a new life is all about!
