Amos: The American Prophet

How much do you know about your government?  Thanks to the NSA they know a lot about you.  It’s interesting how a government of the people tends to reflects the values of the culture that they govern.  So if society turns away from morality and virtue, guess what’s going to happen to the government?  And this is nothing new.  In fact a guy in the Bible named Amos had a little something to say about what’s happening in our society today.

Trust & Obey

Mar

Trust & Obey–two great tastes that taste great together.  If you know God very well at all, then you know he’s not just looking for drones to go out and do his bidding like a bunch of worker bees.  Everything that he has done for us has been in the attempt to build and maintain a relationship.  It’s amazing to think how far God is willing to go to demonstrate his love.  And when you really understand that, it’s one of the biggest motivators for wanting to live your life for Him.  It’s like when you’re dating and you’re willing to do pretty much anything to impress somebody that you like.  But the difference is, God already knows everything about you, and he still loves you more than you can imagine.  That kind of love is worth investing your life in!

A Talkin’ Donkey!

The Bible is not just an inside look at the history of the universe, and the pinnacle guide to how to get the most out of life.  It’s also just a blast to read, considering that it’s just chocked full of accounts of some of the craziest things that ever happened.  For example a talking donkey that actually saved its owners life.  You might think that’s just the stuff of fairy tales and Shrek movies.  But those things just borrowed the idea from what happened in real life.

Forgiveness

There is no greater gift than forgiveness.  The fact that God is even willing to pardon our past and wipe the slate clean is amazing–especially considering the fact that there’s no way we could ever make up for rebelling against the good life he has called us to live.

So in turn the greatest gift that we could share is to pass on the same kind of forgiveness that we receive.  It can be a life changer.

Of course that’s hard to do is you’ve never received the grace of God in your own life.  So if you want to know just how good it is, there’s no time like the present to find out what having a new life is all about!

Weak Strength

The Winter Olympics are well under way.  And the world’s fastest, strongest, highest flying, and most talented individuals are competing in the snow and ice of Russia.  But there’s a man who outdid them all when it comes to pure strength.

You’ve probably heard of Samson, and some of his “strengths” and weaknesses.  But what do you know about his faith?  Have a listen, and see what you think.

Anything Good?

“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” asked Nathaniel.

Later the religious leaders said “Look in to it.  You will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.”

There were people who doubted Jesus’ authority, because they saw him as a nobody from nowhere.

So did they have it right.  Is Jesus disqualified as the son of God because he happened to live in Nazareth?  Or does that all the more qualify him as a wonderful example for any person from anywhere to follow in his footsteps?

Heart Cleaning

Can God really love everybody?  There are some pretty rotten people in this world.  Would God really be willing to reach out to the worst of the worst.

Like many people, maybe you’ve even wondered if God cares about you.

Have a listen to this week’s message and hear how God dealt with one of the most wicked sinners in the Bible.

A Space Shuttle that Builds Itself

The miracle of human development is staggeringly complex.  The changes and growth that take place even in the first day following conception are simply amazing–much less the developmental changes that occur in the following weeks and months.  To be able to see what is taking place on a microscopic level reveals Darwinian evolution as a biological absurdity.  Of course the Bible reveals the truth of God’s amazing creation even without the ability we now have to see the intricate mechanics of early development.  But the more capabilities we develop for scientific understanding of what happens in a mother’s womb, the more clear it should become that abortion at any stage is so obviously the destruction of a human being, and that all members of the human race have the same God given rights regardless of their level of development or ability.

You CAN Handle the Truth!

Jan

Have you ever felt overwhelmed, out of control, pushed to the breaking point?  Have you ever wondered where God is at times like that?  Has anyone ever told you “God will never give you more than you can handle” when you felt like you had already lost control?  Do you think God gave you more than you could handle?

I would guess if you are reading this, that so far you have survived everything you’ve experienced.  So do you think God never gives you more than you can handle?

What about people who are martyred for their faith around the world.  Did God give them more than they could handle?

Listen to the message below and tell me what you think.
