Re-Born For It

John 12:23-27 Jesus replied, “Now the time has come for the Son of Man to enter into his glory. 24I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives. 25Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who care nothing for their life in this world will keep it for eternity. 26Anyone who wants to be my disciple must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.

27“Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But this is the very reason I came!

Romans 12:1-2 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Decisions, Decisions

Proverbs 16:1-9 We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. 2People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. 3Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. 4The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster. 5The Lord detests the proud; they will surely be punished. 6Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin.  By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil. 7When people’s lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them. 8Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest. 9We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.

Time to Go

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. 2A time to be born and a time to die.  A time to plant and a time to harvest. 3A time to kill and a time to heal.  A time to tear down and a time to build up. 4A time to cry and a time to laugh.  A time to grieve and a time to dance. 5A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.  A time to embrace and a time to turn away. 6A time to search and a time to quit searching.  A time to keep and a time to throw away. 7A time to tear and a time to mend.  A time to be quiet and a time to speak. 8A time to love and a time to hate.  A time for war and a time for peace.

The Inconvenient Truth

Psalm 19:1-3 The heavens proclaim the glory of God.  The skies display his craftsmanship. 2Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world.  God has made a home in the heavens for the sun. 5It bursts forth like a radiant bridegroom after his wedding.  It rejoices like a great athlete eager to run the race. 6The sun rises at one end of the heavens and follows its course to the other end.  Nothing can hide from its heat.

In The Beginning

2 Timothy 4:1-5 I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: 2Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 3For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4They will reject the truth and chase after myths. 5But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you.

What a Mess!

1st John 1:5-9 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 6So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness; we are not practicing the truth. 7But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin. 8If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. 9But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Set Sail

Psalm 34:8-18 Taste and see that the Lord is good.  Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! 9Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. 10Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.

11Come, my children, and listen to me, and I will teach you to fear the Lord. 12Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? 13Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! 14Turn away from evil and do good.  Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

15The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. 16But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth. 17The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.  He rescues them from all their troubles. 18The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

What’s the Point?

Matthew 7:7-12 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? 11If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him! 12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
