How much would you sell your soul for?  A million?  A billion?  Money, power, fame?  What’s your price?  Or are you one of those crazy people who think integrity is more valuable than earthly treasures?

Jesus asked a great question that everybody ought to carefully consider: What good is it to gain the whole world and lose your soul in the process?

A long time ago in a land far, far away…Daniel was the Obi Wan Kenobi of Mesopotamia.  And he told the truth in the midst of a dark world.

God is extremely patient.  It’s popular in our culture to talk about tolerance.  Well I am amazed at the level of disregard that God seems to tolerate.  I know God is long-suffering, and that he’s giving people time to come to their senses and repent, but I don’t think I could wait as long as he has waited and put up with so much abuse from people who hate God.  But the Lord does draw the line eventually, and this is one of those times!

Kings and kingdoms, they shall all pass away, but God’s servant keeps going and going and going.  Daniel has survived Nebuchadnezzar and several of his replacements.  And now he’s about to see another one bite the dust.  And this next one is so dumb that people will remember the words that spelled his doom for thousands of years around the world.  The handwriting is on the wall for King Belshazzar.  People do stupid things when they’re drunk, and Belshazzar’s stupidity, ranks up there with the dumbest of them.

Romans 8:1-4 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. 3The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.

Want to know the secret of life?  There is a God and you’re not him.  And the sooner we recognize the truth of that, the sooner life can get better.  Once you have things in the proper perspective like that, it tends to make everything easier–good times and bad, joy and sorrow.  Life with God is the best way to live.  So if you want to see your dreams come true, try turning to the one who invented the ability to dream in the first place!

You know, you can often tell where the direction of a person’s life will lead.  Sometimes we don’t like to think about it, but there are some pretty logical conclusions that you can draw depending on if a person is selfish or generous, moral or immoral, honest or not.  And God tells us that we will all be judged according to how we live our lives.

So as much as some of us don’t like to think or talk about it, the wise thing to do would be to consider where our decisions today will lead tomorrow.

How about you?  Now might be a great time to make a course correction before it gets to be much more difficult to change in the future.

One of the many great things about God is that he is so willing to give people a second chance.  And it really doesn’t matter what kind of life you lead in the past.  God is an equal opportunity saver.  All we have to do, is be willing to turn our lives around and live for him, and God offers his own Spirit to guide and empower us to follow through on our commitment to him.

Are you ready to live a different life?  God can make it happen!

Your checkbook should balance.  You ought to balance things out like your family budget or how much healthy food you eat vs. how much junk food you consume or how much you work and study and play and rest.  A lot of things in life that are enjoyable can become become very unhealthy  and even deadly if you overdo it.  On the one hand a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.  But on the other hand, if you eat too much sugar, you can get fat, develop diabetes, go blind, lose toes and limbs, and eventually die.

Some things shouldn’t have any place in your life, because they do nothing but harm.  You wouldn’t add rat poison to your menu because it would kill you.  Another thing that doesn’t do anybody any good is sin.  Sin hurts others, it hurts God, and it will spiritually kill you.  So when you’re trying to find a good balance in your daily life, it’s best to leave sin completely out.  It will not only throw off your balance, it will get you a one way ticket to Hell.  And that will totally mess up your day.

A Study in the book of Daniel : Chapter 4 – Part 2 The Easy Way or the Hard Way

Einstein said that it was insanity to keep making the same mistake over and over expecting different results.  And that’s basically what a lot of people do with sin.  They keep doing the same immoral things over and over thinking it’s not going to hurt them.  The only problem is, you can’t plea insanity for evil on Judgment Day.  Part of what makes sin evil is that you do it with full knowledge that it’s wrong.  Your own conscience declares your guilt.

So the simple fix is to stop sinning.  Jesus offers a free pardon to anybody willing to make that choice and start living for him.  So the question is, will you stop, or will you keep doing the same wicked things expecting different results?

King Nebuchadnezzar was a great example of someone who learned that lesson a little slow, but he eventually got it.  Are you smarter than him?
